HELP VAJRA!
Selfless acts often stem from profound connections, pushing us to give even when nothing material binds us to the cause.
The vertical stairs to Swayambhunath hold a unique intimacy in my life. They’ve been more than just a path—they’re a challenge, a ritual, and a testament to resilience. Today, that connection deepened. For the first time, I completed the vertical run not once, but twice. The second ascent wasn’t just physical—it was spiritual. At the top, under the night sky, a sense of fulfillment surged through me. I captured a picture of the gods, their essence blending with the starlit heavens.
Descending to Vajra H’s parking lot, the cool evening whispered memories. A few days ago, my wife and I visited this very place. She remarked on the unpleasant odor of burning firewood. Today, I noticed it too. Approaching the manager, I expressed the concern. He admitted the smell came from old firewood but lamented a deeper issue—the financial struggles of Vajra H.
The manager confided in me about their challenges with bank financing. Despite owning vast lands and real estate, the company’s perennial losses and taxation on revaluation reserves were eroding its potential. The problem, he explained, wasn’t just operational—it was structural.
As a Chartered Accountant, I couldn’t ignore his plight. A failing business isn’t just numbers on a balance sheet; it’s livelihoods, dreams, and legacy. I offered to review their financials from the past two years. Perhaps, I thought, the solution lay in rethinking their approach—an optimization model to balance resources and liabilities.
This wasn’t my fight. I don’t own Vajra H, nor do I gain anything from helping. Yet, the connection I feel with this place, its people, and its charm compelled me. Sometimes, the act of helping stems not from obligation but from a deep-rooted sense of belonging.
